EC - AFS (Student File Storage)
EC AFS (Student File Storage) is your network file storage, a place on the network you can save files to. Each staff and student is allocated 250MB of space.
Accessing AFS (Student File Storage)
You can access AFS (Student File Storage) via the web interface at http://afsweb.ec.auckland.ac.nz/.
Usage and policy
The data retention policy for the EC AFS (Student File Storage) service is governed by the Student Data Storage Policy. Use of all EC services is governed by the regulations and policies of the University, including the ICT Statute (2007). These are published in the University of Auckland Calendar and on the information security web site, which can be accessed via the ICT site.
Acceptable use can be summarised as:
- Using resources for work relating to your course of study only.
- Working in a manner that does not jeopardise security of the system and respects the rights of other users and people.
- Using services as they are provided, without modification or subversion.
- Treating all resources with care and respect.
- Using the services in a manner that does not breach University policy, statues, NZ Law or International Law.

Problems and reporting faults
If you're having problems with EC AFS (Student File Storage), the EC AFS Self test utility will run a basic check on your EC AFS (Student File Storage) directory, permissions, and offer advice on how to fix basic problems. If the problem continues, you should cut and paste the results of this test, and send an email to the IC Helpdesk.
EC AFS Quota
All staff and students are entitled to a quota of 250 MB. If you are having problems with the EC AFS (Student File Storage) quota you can check this online by logging on to NetLogin, going to the View My Account and scrolling to the AFS (Student File Storage) Quota section at the bottom.
Backup and Restoring Files
EC AFS is backed up regularly (every night).
- If the file was deleted within the last 24 hours read this wiki article that describes how to do your own restoration.
- If the file was deleted over 24 hours ago and it can to be recovered, you must contact the IC Helpdesk and request an AFS file restoration. From the time the request is received it can take up to 4 working days to recover the file/folder. Most files can be recovered within 1 to 2 working days.
