The University of Auckland Copy and Print Service (CAPS)

The University of Auckland provides a copy and print service for all staff and students, and a copy service only for members of the public.

Copiers and printers are available in all Libraries, Information Commons and Faculty computer laboratories on all campuses.

Costs

You need to ensure you have sufficient money in your copy and print balances to be able to use the copy and print service.

Copy and print prices are the same:

Type Cost
Single-sided black and white A4/A3 10 cents per page
Double-sided black and white A4/A3 20 cents per sheet (10 cents per page)
Single-sided colour A4/A3 20 cents per page
Double-sided colour A4/A3 40 cents per sheet (20 cents per page)

Adding Money

You can add money to your copy and print balances by using a self-service ePOS station, available on all campuses. If you would like assistance with adding money please visit an Information Commons (IC) or Campus Helpdesk.

You can transfer the money you add to your copy and print balances between those balances from the transfer site. You must be logged on to NetLogin in order to access the transfer site.

You can obtain a refund for any money you add to your own copy and print balances. For more information see the refunds page.

How to Print

  1. Log into a computer and open up the document (webpage etc) to be printed
  2. Click the print button on your computer to send the document to the printer
  3. Select a printer to print your document from. Two different types of printers are provided for student use;
  4. MFD (Multi-Function Device: copier, printer, scanner in one), suitable for small print jobs (less than 10 pages):
    1. Go to an MFD and swipe your University ID card or enter your NetID and password using the touch screen.
    2. Your document (or documents) to be printed will display on the touch screen.
    3. Touch the screen to highlight the document (or documents) in the list you wish to print.
    4. Touch the 'print' or 'print all' buttons to print your documents.
    5. To logout of the MFD click the 'other function' button then press either logout button (on the touch screen or the hard plastic button to the right of the touch screen).
  5. Dedicated printers that only print, suitable for large print jobs (10 pages or more):
    1. Go to a print station (computer on the desk next to the dedicated printer) and swipe your University ID card or enter your NetID and password.
    2. Click the 'print' or 'print all' buttons to print your documents.
    3. Once your documents have printed you will automatically be logged out of the print station computer.

How to Copy

  1. Go to an MFD and swipe your University ID card or enter your NetID and password using the touch screen.
  2. Press the copier button on the left hand side of the MFD.
  3. Place your material to be copied face down on the glass and close the lid.
  4. Select the number of copies you wish to make. The default setting is one.
  5. Push the green START button on the right hand side.
  6. To logout of the MFD once copying is completed click the 'other function' button then press either logout button (on the touch screen or the hard plastic button to the right of the touch screen).
  7. Further instructions on how to reduce, enlarge or double-side your copies are available by the MFD.

Copying for Members of the Public

Please observe the Copyright Act (1994) when copying material. More information can be found on posters located by all MFDs.

  • If you use a printer or MFD (Multi-Function Device: copier, printer, scanner in one) and experience problems (e.g. pages printed out blank), you should notify the local IT support staff. For example if you experience a printing fault in a Computer Science lab you should report this to the Computer Science IT support staff.
