FAQ - EC Mail


What is my EC Mail address?

Your EC Mail address is your NetID@aucklanduni.ac.nz.

For example, your address could be abcd001@aucklanduni.ac.nz .

How can I access my email?

To access EC Mail you go to http://webmail.ec.auckland.ac.nz. Alternatively you can go to the main University of Auckland website http://www.auckland.ac.nz and select EC Mail from the Quick Links drop down menu.

I already have a Gmail account. Can I use my existing Gmail login and password for the EC Mail?

No, you will not be able to use your existing Gmail login. Your EC Mail account uses University of Auckland credentials (your NetID and password) and will not accept personal Gmail credentials.

Can I combine my own Gmail account with the EC Mail account?

Yes, you can

1. Sign into your EC Mail account http://webmail.ec.auckland.ac.nz.

2. Click Settings at the top of your EC Mail page

3. Click the Accounts tab

4. Enter the Gmail address of the account you'd like to combine with your EC Mail account

I want to redirect/forward my EC Mail. How do I do this?

1. Sign into your EC Mail account http://webmail.ec.auckland.ac.nz.

2. Click Settings at the top of your EC Mail page

3. Click the Forwarding and POP/IMAP tab

4. Select Forward a copy of incoming mail to and add the email address you would like your messages to be forwarded to

5. A verification email will be sent to your forwarding email address, open up the verification email and click the confirmation link

6. Return to your EC Mail account settings, then to Forwarding and POP/IMAP, select Forward a copy of incoming mail to, select the verified email address

7. Click Save Changes

This function will not work until the forwarding email address is verified

The University of Auckland cannot set up the redirection from your new EC Mail account for you.

The University will continue to use your @aucklanduni.ac.nz email address for all official email communications which will be automatically forwarded to the email address you entered.

Can I use EC Mail on other email software, e.g. Outlook etc?

  1. Set your new EC Mail to have IMAP access enabled

    • Sign into your EC Mail account http://webmail.ec.auckland.ac.nz
    • Click Settings at the top of any page.
    • Click the Forwarding and POP/IMAP tab.
    • Enable POP or IMAP
    • Click Save Changes.
  2. Set your alternative access password

  3. Configure your email client

    While configuring your email client, any time you are asked for:
    • Your username - enter your email address (i.e. NetID@aucklanduni.ac.nz).
    • Your password - enter your alternative access password.
    General IMAP Settings
    • the incoming server is imap.gmail.com or imap.googlemail.com.
    • the outgoing server is smtp.gmail.com or smtp.googlemail.com.
